Cell Phone Policy

SAB CELL PHONE POLICY

During the school day, cell phones must be silenced or powered off and stored in student backpacks. Cell phones may only be used before school, and after school.

Every adult in the school, regardless of the role one plays, has the responsibility to protect the learning environment, which may include confiscating cell phones for non-compliance with the new policy.

For students who violate this policy:

For the first incident, the device will be held by the homeroom teacher until the end of the day, and then the device will be returned to the student.

For the second incident, the device will be held by administration until the end of the day, with parents being contacted by the homeroom teacher, and then the device will be returned to the student at the end of the day.

For the third incident, the device will be held by administration until the end of the day and parents will be contacted. The device will not be welcomed into the building or must be checked into the office at the beginning of the school day for a one-week period.  Any subsequent offences will escalate the duration that the device will not be allowed in the building and continued noncompliance may result in a suspension.
In implementing this new cell phone policy, we realize there are exceptions to every rule. In the event of extenuating circumstances, such as medical/emergency situations, please contact administration to make alternate arrangements.

We sincerely appreciate your support in the implementation of this new policy as we strive to create a more positive, safer learning environment for all students.
